Rock and Roll - It's Aliiiiiiive

Studioware That Is...

While still early on since the project has been "revived" a lot of work is flowing and much progress has been made.

I thought about this while relaxing and taking a break from "Frankenstein-ing" these machines for my new network. You know I love it!

Meet "studioware", the machine that I will be putting into production in the studio:

Notice my awesome Screenshot! ^^ =) A real mans screenshot.
That is so nice I am going to post another screenshot:

Notice the new Maxtor 1TB!

Since I moved 9 months ago I haven't unpacked my machines (except for one laptop) until a few weeks ago. Hell, I didn't get internet connected until about 2 weeks ago.
I am tying all the loose ends up on my lan tonight in the wee hours, drinking great coffee from fresh ground beans and having a Rocky Patel Old World Reserve chillin'. =)

I am taking a break right now from Borked cpus' and burning hot GPUs', Hosed BIOS and lost CMOS...

Studioware Project Status Update

Things are going great with Studioware. I think we have a really good team if I do say so myself.
I was up most of the night working on my main "studioware" machine and thought I would drop a note here. Here are some of the things that have been done and/or "in-progress".

1) The rsync server is up and running.
2) The sftp server is as well.
3) The domain is Live. (We should put up at least one page with a blurb)
4) Freenode Group Application sent for approval. (I need to submit a change to the group URL)
5) Kernels are being built by mad scientists!
6) IRC channels are in place.
7) Google Group (ML/Forum) for developers is setup.
8) Documentation (Lists and otherwise) is going too.
9) Google Docs has proved it's keep.
10) Build Scripts & Packages are flying around the room violently!

I am signing out to install that Maxtor 1TB.

Regards,
Donald

From A Users Point of View

==========
02:27 :+tony-the-hitman: there will be INSTALL documents and README. should be very simple to do.
02:27 :+tony-the-hitman: right, no slapt-get approach
02:28 :+tony-the-hitman: i am not sure what slapt-get does exactly I always use native pkgtools but i think it gets/builds/installs automated
IIRC.
02:28 .:+slackGuitarman: slapt-get grabs binary packages
02:29 :+tony-the-hitman: ok maybe i used it once, wait that was slackpkg i tried.
02:29 .:+slackGuitarman: but... i think as a slack user and this is just me, if there was a: ./installStudioware.sh script that pulled down
all the packages etc that would be handy
02:29 :+tony-the-hitman: yes, that is how we do gware
02:30 .:+slackGuitarman: i use slackpkg to keep the system up to date with patches
02:30 .:+slackGuitarman: and sbopkg for additional software on slackbuilds.org
02:30 .:+slackGuitarman: i used to d/l manually etc from slackbuilds but sbopkg really makes it less work
02:30 .:+slackGuitarman: but still keeps the dependancy control in your hands
02:31 .:+slackGuitarman: anyways i look forward to trying it... i setup a slackware media station before - once by myself and once with the
slackermedia queue file
02:31 :+tony-the-hitman: gware.org hit the donwload link and you can see under INSTALL... yes eviljames has a good plan for distributing with
sbopkg
02:31 :+tony-the-hitman: and que files
02:32 .:+slackGuitarman: cool yeah i see your gware link thats a good way to go
02:33 ~>+slackGuitarman<~ tony-the-hitman: sounds good
02:33 .:+slackGuitarman: alright - i better hit the bed
02:33 :+tony-the-hitman: me too
02:33 .:+slackGuitarman: gettin' sleepy
02:33 :+tony-the-hitman: later
02:33 .:+slackGuitarman: laters
02:33 ... slackGuitarman :~guitarman@192.168.0.1: has quit (Quit: leaving)

We're baaaaack...

Hello fellow devs!

I am glad the project is back in active production albeit still early on things are moving pretty fast. David Woodfall (dive) has joined us and currently working on the rt-kernel.

Welcome to the project David. =)

I would like to put Studioware in active production in Black Sheep Studios. It just so happens that the time for more powerful audio editing tools (I have outgrown my Roland VS-2400) has arrived. I hope it will prove beneficial to the project as this will be a solid testing ground in a real world studio environment.

James [evil] & fire|bird already have the github setup with Slackbuilds for many of the applications. Thanks to you two this "idea" is still alive and well. =)

==========

Here are a few things that randomly coming to mind:

1) We are building for Slackware-13.1 [plus patches/]. The "rumors" say 13.2 is right around the corner we know how that goes. So we stick with the build for 13.1 reguardless of the next slackware release date. Someone can easliy enough be testing on the latest slackware stable version if need be but the project continues to focus on it's first release for use on Slackware-13.1 + patches/.

2) David is working on the rt-kernel and modules. I will be testing these kernels.

3) WIKI: When can we set this up?

4) RSYNC: I think eventually we need an rsync.. now that I think about it we probably need it sooner than later. I find it easy when all devs can rsync an entire projects -current tree.
Plus we can offer a public rsync service for stable release downloads.

5) Domain: done -> studioware.org

6) Project Name: Officially changed from StudioS to Studioware

7) BLOG: http://studioware-project.blogspot.com/

8) LOGO: IN-Progress (hassle fire|bird about this =)

That's all I have for now.

Take care!
